Supermicro Boosts Entry UP Server Line Enabling a Rich Set of New Workloads on Cost-Optimized, Entry-Class Systems

New Servers ranging from compact, cost-effective 1U platforms to powerful and efficient multi-node MicroCloud and MicroBlade™ Systems all supporting the new Intel® Xeon® E-2100 Processors (formerly codenamed Coffee Lake)

SAN JOSE, Calif., November 5, 2018 — Super Micro Computer, Inc. (SMCI), a global leader in enterprise and edge computing, storage, networking solutions and green computing technology, is releasing a broad portfolio of new UP servers optimized for the new Intel® Xeon® E-2100 processors launching for servers today. The new systems empower customers to do more with their entry-class servers.

These new Supermicro servers boost performance up to 30-50% compared to the previous generation as they deliver value to software-defined storage (SDS), small business server, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications in the public sector, medical, industrial production and cloud environments. Enhancements compared to the previous generation include improved energy efficiency, faster I/O bandwidth, increased security and reliability, 50% more processor cores and increased performance-per-watt.

“These new solutions further extend our industry-leading portfolio of UP servers and provide more enterprise-class features compared to the previous generation, which enables customers to do more without paying more,” said Charles Liang, president and CEO of Supermicro.  “In addition to the immediate performance boost, these new entry-class Supermicro server solutions deliver increased I/O throughput and increased density per watt with up to six Xeon® processor cores in 95 watts. For those seeking increased density per rack unit, our MicroBlade™ supports up to 28 server nodes in 6U.”

“Supermicro has worked closely with Intel to bring to market a broad selection of general purpose and purpose-built server solutions optimized for the new Intel® Xeon® E-2100 processors that are available today,” said Jennifer Huffsteler, Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Data Center Product Management Group. “This latest generation Intel server platform is the first to bring 6 cores into entry-level servers and with enhanced performance advanced security, reliability and affordability.”

Supermicro offers a very broad portfolio of UP servers for customers to choose from, so they can get a solution with the features required without paying a premium for features not required. Supermicro servers optimized for the new Intel Xeon E-2100 processors that are available today include a wide range of systems.

For cost-effective general purpose servers, Supermicro’s new Mainstream UP servers optimize a 6-core Xeon E processor with up to 128GB DDR4 memory into a 1U form factor with different options for I/O and power. Meanwhile, the new 1U WIO SuperServer optimizes the same processor and memory with a flexible choice in storage options. For small business servers and storage applications, Supermicro’s new mid-tower or mini-tower systems provide exceptional value.

For multi-node datacenter system applications, Supermicro’s high-density MicroBlade™ systems support up to 28 nodes in 6U or 14 nodes in 3U.  Similarly, for cloud or web hosting applications, the company’s MicroCloud systems feature up to twelve cost-effective server nodes in 3U.
