Supermicro 1U GPU Solution (deployed by NEC Japan) at GSIC Center
- Ranked 1st on the World's Green500 List of Computer Systems

 |
Supermicro has achieved another important milestone in green computing history. Driven by Supermicro’s 1U 4x GPU SuperServer® systems, the Tokyo Institute of Technology (TITECH) GSIC TSUBAME-KFC supercomputer was ranked 1st on the world’s Green500 list of energy efficient supercomputer systems. This HPC system was designed by TITECH to achieve maximum energy efficiency and highlight the latest advances in cooling and low power supercomputing technologies.
The TSUBAME-KFC supercomputer operates with high energy efficiency by submerging the Supermicro compute nodes in insulated oil. The oil absorbs the heat from the compute nodes and transfers it into water loops via heat exchangers. The warm water finally releases its heat into the air via a cooling tower. The TSUBAME-KFC system is comprised of 40 Supermicro based 1U - 4 GPU SuperServer® compute nodes. Each node utilizes the following components:
- Two Intel® Xeon® Ivy Bridge 2.1GHz 6-core processors
- Four NVIDIA Tesla K20X GPUs
- One Mellanox® FDR (56Gbps) InfiniBand Host Channel Adaptor (HCA)
- 64GB DDR3-1600 SDRAM
- SSD 120GB
